Social Media Guidelines

Our digital platforms are designed to be welcoming, informative virtual communities. We love sharing student achievements, district updates, and celebrating our incredible educators with you. While these pages are open to public commentary, they are considered limited public forums. To ensure our pages remain safe, civil, and focused on our students, families, and staff, we enforce the following community standards. By participating on our pages, you agree to abide by this policy.

Prohibited Content

Comments left by the public will be monitored. While we welcome constructive feedback and differing opinions, comments that contain any of the following elements are subject to being hidden or removed without prior notice:

  • Personally Identifiable Information (PII) & Student Records: To ensure the safety of our minors and compliance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and the data privacy mandates of Georgia SB 351, comments containing student names (outside of district-sanctioned achievements), home addresses, phone numbers, personal email addresses, or private employee personnel details will be immediately removed.
  • Cyberbullying, Harassment, & Threats: We do not tolerate actionable defamation, personal attacks, direct threats of violence, or hateful language targeting individuals or specific groups. In compliance with the Protecting Georgia's Children on Social Media Act (SB 351) and Glynn County Board of Education Policy JCDA-G, any intentional electronic, written, verbal, or physical act intended to threaten, harass, or intimidate students, school employees, or third parties will be hidden or removed. Actionable cyberbullying involving students will be documented and forwarded to administration for formal evaluation under district disciplinary procedures.
  • Profanity & Obscenity: Any comments containing vulgar language, sexually explicit text, or links to inappropriate/mature material will be filtered.
  • Off-Topic Postings & Spam: To maintain the focus and utility of our digital spaces, all comments must be directly relevant to the specific subject matter of the individual post under which they are written. Comments that introduce broad district grievances, unrelated local issues, or general political debates outside the scope of the specific thread topic will be removed. Repetitive copy-and-pasted text, automated "bot" comments, commercial advertisements, and business solicitations are strictly prohibited.
  • Illegal Activity & Policy Violations: Content that encourages illegal acts, safety violations, copyright infringements, or explicit violations of our Board Policies.
  • Political Campaigning: Posts endorsing or opposing specific political candidates, parties, or local ballot measures, in accordance with state laws governing the use of public resources

Policy Enforcement & Public Record Disclaimers

  • Public Record Disclaimers: Please be aware that all comments, replies, and direct messages sent to the Glynn County School System social media accounts are considered public records under Georgia public records laws. They may be archived and are subject to disclosure upon request.
  • The "Hide" vs. "Delete" Standard: Whenever possible, our administrators utilize platform "Hide" features for violations. This removes the disruptive content from public view while preserving the record for legal compliance.
  • Moderation Window: Social media sites are moderated discussion sites. Comments are primarily monitored during standard district business hours [e.g., Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM]. Comments made after business hours, over weekends, or during school breaks may not be reviewed by district administrators until the following business day.
  • Crisis & Administrative Posts: Certain posts involving active safety emergencies, specific personnel announcements, or missing student alerts may have comments disabled entirely to preserve accurate information delivery.
  • User Blocking: When a commenter repeatedly posts material that violates this policy, an administrator may temporarily or permanently block that individual from future participation on platforms that permit organization-level blocking.
  • Endorsement Disclaimer: Comments posted by the public represent the views of the individual author alone and do not reflect the official positions, policies, or endorsements of the Glynn County School System, its administration, or the Board of Education.

Need to Resolve a Specific Issue?

Social media comment sections are not equipped to handle individual student or staff grievances. If you need immediate assistance regarding a specific student, classroom issue, grading question, or personnel matter, please use our official district email – gcbe.contactus@glynn.k12.ga.us.

Appeals Process: A commenter who believes their comment was improperly removed or that they were blocked in error may email Bailey Johnson, Communications & Engagement Specialist for Glynn County Schools, at bailey.johnson@glynn.k12.ga.us to request an administrative review of the removal.
