Career, Technical & Agricultural Education courses and career pathways give students a head start in many technical and professional careers.

When included as part of a student’s regular high school schedule they will:

• Attend project-based classes that give hands-on experience in their chosen field
• Learn more about how academic course work is applied in real-world settings
• Experience actual work in their chosen career field
• Discover any gaps that may need to be addressed in coursework in an effort to meet job skills or industry needs
• Build stronger work ethic through developing interpersonal skills and experiences
• Work-based learning opportunities for students to connect career goals and classroom learning with a productive work environment

Glynn County Schools offers a wide variety of career pathways for middle and high school students, where students can focus on a program of study that is connected to their future career choice. We offer 46 different pathways within the 17 Career Clusters offered in Georgia. Our students have many options from which to choose as they prepare for their future!

These provide the foundation for students to develop the academic knowledge and work-related skills required to achieve their career goals. The courses are designed to meet the needs of students' individual career goals. The courses prepare students for specialized career courses, work-based learning activities, post-secondary technical colleges, or four-year college programs.

As students enter their junior and senior years, they may select courses that have specialized content designed to teach skills required to perform tasks for which they will receive certificates of achievement and mastery, or they may select advanced level courses for development of problem-solving skills. Students may select work-based programs and/or courses that allow on-the-job training, wages, or dual high school/college credit.

The current data indicates that the types of careers presently available are as follows:

• professional, 20%
• skilled, 60%
• unskilled, 20%

According to the U.S. Department of Labor, many students are unaware of the trends and fail to gain the required skills for employment.
