Game Preview
Brunswick High will be looking to snap a two-game losing streak when the Pirates take on South Effingham Friday night at Glynn County Stadium.
The Pirates have lost their last two Region 1-AAAAAA games after winning their first two. BHS fell in overtime three weeks ago to Bradwell Institute and lost 21-17 last Friday night to Glynn Academy in the annual City Championship Game.
Last week, the Terrors kept the ball for about 37 of the 48 minutes including the final 10 minutes of the game after the Pirates had pulled within that final four-point margin early in the fourth quarter.
With three games left on the schedule, the Pirates find themselves likely needing to win all three to have a chance of making the 32-team playoff field in Class AAAAAA which will be set for the first time this season using the Postseason Rankings (PSR).
Brunswick is currently No. 42 in those rankings.
South Effingham is No. 28 in those rankings this week. The Mustangs also lost to their county rival last week as they fell to Effingham, 21-18.
The Mustangs also have lost to Grovetown (16-15) in region play. They finish out their region slate with a home game against Glynn next Friday and a game at Bradwell Institute on Nov. 6.
South Effingham relies heavily on senior running back Kyran White who averages just short of 100 rushing yards a game.
Sophomore linebacker Cole McMurry leads the defense for the Mustangs with 9.3 tackles a game.
