Board Policy Revisions & Clarifications
Personal Electronic Devices Policy (K-12 Extension): The Board reviewed updates to the personal electronic devices policy to expand "bell-to-bell" restrictions across the district. Historically, state legislation required a K-8 policy by January 2026, which our district proactively launched ahead of schedule in August 2025. Now, with state legislation mandating a high school expansion (grades 9-12) by January 2027, the district is implementing the policy early this August 2026 to ensure a completely seamless start to the school year with no mid-year policy changes.
The policy strictly prohibits the use of devices, including cell phones, smartwatches, tablets, e-readers, headphones, and earbuds, during school hours on school premises. Devices must be kept away via teacher-designated storage or student bookbags. Violations will trigger progressive discipline consequences mapping out clear 1st, 2nd, and 3rd offenses. Exceptions are permitted only for students with explicit mandates in an IEP, Section 504 Plan, or medical plan. Parents needing to reach their children during the school day should contact the school's front office.
