Board Briefs - May 12, 2026

Work Session Highlights
During the May 7 work session, the Board reviewed several key updates and action items, including:
District Operations & Financial Planning
The Board conducted a thorough review of the district’s financial health and upcoming software requirements:
- Financial Reports: Reviewed the June 2025 and March 2026 Financial Reports, along with investment analysis for March.
- Budgeting: Conducted the second review of the FY27 Tentative Budget.
- Software Renewals: Reviewed renewals for the 2026-27 school year for Otus Assessment & Analytics, Edgenuity, and Infinite Campus.
- Policy Updates: Reviewed updates to the Bullying Policy to ensure district compliance with the state regarding cyberbullying, required parent/victim notifications, and supportive referrals.
- 2027-28 & 2028-29 School Calendars: Presented and reviewed the 2027-28 and 2028-29 school calendars, which were designed by a committee of parents, staff, community members, and administrators.
Facilities & Construction Update
Significant progress was reported across several district projects:
- College of Coastal Georgia Performing Arts Center: Project is officially completed. It is a beautiful facility if you have the chance to see it in-person!
- Glyndale Elementary Replacement: Project is progressing well; Wing 1 and 2 steel is up, masonry work is underway, and the gym stage has been built.
- Goodyear Renovation: Kitchen equipment has been moved out and demolition of the kitchen has begun. Sought approval for the Goodyear intercom and camera replacements (materials for cameras have already been purchased) as well a classroom furniture from Ernie Morris Enterprises.
- C.B. Greer Renovation: Preliminary large scale submittal has been approved by the state.
- Sterling Roof Replacement: Work is set to begin May 26 and conclude in September. Noisy work is scheduled to be finished by the end of July.
- Board of Education Phase 5: The Board room is complete, and crews are finishing the large training room.
- Reviewed the most recent Gude Report.
School of Scholars
The Board received a specialized presentation regarding the School of Scholars program.
Para to Teacher Graduates
Recognized Lannon Ramirez and Rebecca Scarbrough (both from Satilla Marsh Elementary) for graduating from the professional paraprofessional program with CCGA. The graduates earned a Bachelor of Science in Education with dual majors and certification in both Elementary Education and Special Education (P-5). This wonderful program allows staff to continue working while earning their degrees, with financial assistance from our school system. Congratulations to you both, we are extremely proud of you!

School Nutrition
Approved bids and renewals for the following:
- Milk: T. G. Lee Dairy from Orlando, FL
- Fresh Produce: Senn Brothers
- Product Renewals: Bull’s Eye Brand-Smart Mouth Pizza (Atlanta, GA), Williams Institutional Foods (Douglas, GA), Sun Coast Paper (paper products), Fayette County Commodity for Gold Creek (chicken), Rich’s Products (cheese), Maid-Rite (beef), Brookwood Farms (pork), Smucker’s (peanuts), and JTM (beef and cheese).
Board Meeting Highlights
Spotlights
- State Championship Wrestlers: The Board honored two standout student-athletes who reached the pinnacle of Georgia high school sports by bringing home state titles for both Glynn County high schools:
- Caleb Cross (Glynn Academy): The 2026 175lb State Champion, Caleb finished his career as the All-Time Wins Leader in program history. A two-time Region and Sectional Champion, his coaches recognized him as one of the hardest-working athletes to ever come through the school.
- Semaj Dobbins (Brunswick High School): After starting wrestling as a freshman, Semaj’s perseverance led him to an Individual State Championship this February. A dedicated student-athlete with a 3.4 GPA, he earned a full scholarship to Brewton-Parker College to study Nursing.
- GSNA Media Award Recognition: Director of School Nutrition Shelley Daniel surprised Bailey Johnson, Communications & Engagement Specialist, with the Georgia School Nutrition Association (GSNA) District 8 Media Award. This award recognizes excellence in promoting and highlighting the vital role of school nutrition programs within the community.
