Work Session Highlights
During the January 8 work session, the Board organized its leadership for the new year and reviewed several operational updates and construction milestones.
Board Leadership & Governance
The Board of Education held its annual organizational vote and reviewed core guiding principles:
- 2026 Leadership: Mike Hulsey was elected as Chairman and Jeff Dodgen was elected as Vice Chairman.
- Policy Review: The Board conducted a formal review of the Board of Education Code of Ethics and Vision, Mission, and Community Shared Vision Statements.
Financial Oversight
Reviewed the November 2025 Financial Report and the investment analysis for November.
Facilities & Construction Update
The district continues to make significant strides in its infrastructure:
- Brunswick High School Football Field House: Major progress inside with the installation of rubber flooring in the weight room and interior turf. Outside, the gates have been successfully installed.
- College of Coastal Georgia Performing Arts Center: Installation of windows is currently underway, and the sound system speakers are now in place.
- Glyndale Replacement School: The project has officially moved into Phase 3 of construction. All site roads have been cleared.
- Board of Education Wing 4: Roofing work is complete. The district expects to begin the moving process into the renovated space by the end of January 2026.
- Future Planning: The Board received a recommendation to award the Goodyear Elementary summer 2026 renovation project to Pope Construction.
- The Board reviewed the most recent Gude Report.
Board Meeting Highlights
The January 13 regular meeting featured a stellar student performance and formal administrative actions.
Student Spotlight: Landon LaRoche
The Board recognized Landon LaRoche, a student at Glynn Academy, for his extraordinary academic and musical achievements. Maintaining a 4.0 GPA, Landon’s recent accolades include:
- International Recognition: Won 1st place in solo piano at the Teen Talent International Competition.
- State & District Honors: Named to the Georgia State Beta Performaing Arts Instramentalist Champion, as well as a part of Region and District Honor Bands.
- Vocal & Instrumental Versatility: A member of last year’s Regional Literary Quartet and All-State Chorus. He also served as the first trumpet and vocal soloist for the Glynn Academy band during football halftime shows.
Landon provided a live demonstration of his talent for the Board by performing a piece on the keyboard.
Public Participation & Official Actions
- Citizens' Comments: Two citizens addressed the Board regarding district matters.
- Formal Approvals: The Board of Education officially approved the meeting agenda and the consent agenda for the month.
