At the Regular Meeting on April 15, Glynn County Board of Education Chairman, Dr. Hank Yeargan, announced three candidates for the interim District 5 seat. They include:

• Marianne Stonefield: Communications expert at American Nurses Enterprise, overseeing strategic messaging and member engagement for 350 employees and 175,000 nurses.
• Brad Brown: Local banker and former mayor of Brunswick, currently senior vice president of Southeastern Bank, with past leadership roles at BB&T Bank and SunTrust Bank.
• Reggie Jackson: Resident services director at Brunswick Housing Authority, coordinating enhancement activities, services, and initiatives for public housing residents, managing staff, and facilitating grant programs.

The Board will interview the candidates on April 25 and vote to select a finalist in May. Prior to this announcement, the Board approved the March 2025 minutes and the following consent agenda items:

• February 2025 Financial Report: Year-to-date revenues are at 81.3% of budget, while expenditures are at 61.6%, with a budget position of 66.7% as of February.
• St. Simons Elementary Change Order: Approved a credit of $73,666.59 in the Phase 5 building modernization project.
• Goodyear Fire Alarm Upgrade: Approved the purchase and installation of a new fire panel and detection devices for Goodyear Elementary from Associated Systems of Georgia for $64,700, due to the age and difficulty in acquiring replacement parts.
• Incident IQ Help Desk Annual Renewal: Approved the annual subscription renewal purchase of Incident IQ for $66,254.51 through the Georgia State Purchasing Contract. The program is used for managing technology, maintenance, transportation, food service, and central registration requests.
• Brunswick High Weight Room Addition: Approved the purchase of weight room equipment for $346,675.00 for the new BHS Weight Room Addition, ensuring both high schools have comparable facilities.
• Elementary Classroom Cameras: Approved the purchase of classroom cameras for nine elementary schools, including FACES Pre-K Center, for $1,002,070 to enhance safety and monitoring.
• Computer Refresh: Approved the 2025 computer refresh purchase from Dell for $3,057,944.63 to replace 4-6-year-old computers and Chromebooks, with pricing from the Georgia State Purchasing Contract. The expense includes new computers for Central Office and for both Brunswick High School and Glynn Academy.

Work Session Update

During the Work Session on April 10, the Board received an update on the FY2026 budget. Finance Executive Director Avery Coty reviewed the initial budget projection, maintaining the current millage rate of 14.900, projecting a 6% increase in local tax revenues and a 97% collection rate.

Significant expenditure changes include increased health insurance costs for both certified and classified employees, salary step increases, and adjustments in departmental budgets and staffing. The budget projects total revenues of $190,736,700, aiming to balance these increased costs and ensure financial stability for the upcoming fiscal year.
