At the Regular Meeting on May 13, the Glynn County Board of Education unanimously approved the selection of Reggie Jackson as the interim District 5 representative. The current Brunswick Housing Authority resident services director will begin serving at the June board meeting. Prior to this announcement, the Board approved the April 2025 minutes and the following consent agenda items:

• March 2025 Financial Report: Year-to-date revenues are at 85.6% of the budget. Year-to-date expenditures are at 70.5% of the budget.
• FY 2026 Budget Update: Finance Executive Director Avery Coty reviewed the tentative FY 2026 budget, which includes an 8% increase in local property taxes and adjustments in state health insurance and salary step increases. Final approval will be considered on June 10, 2025.
• Needwood Middle School Change Order: Approved a credit of $60,114.45 from Lavender & Associates.
• Brunswick High School West Entrance & Driveway Change Order: Approved a credit of $25,287.42 from R.H. Tyson Construction.
• Phase I - New Glyndale Replacement Site Clearing: Approved $521,435.90 for Phase I site clearing, including a contingency for unforeseen issues. Ridge Enterprise will handle the project.
• Local Facilities Five-Year Plan Resolution: Approved the new Five-Year Local Facilities Plan Resolution, which was approved by the Georgia Department of Education.
• Satilla Marsh Elementary Media Center Furniture: Approved the purchase and installation of new furniture for $94,037.69 from Ernie Morris Enterprises, Inc.
• Brunswick High School Old Gym New AC Unit: Approved the purchase of four new 20-ton rooftop AC units for $74,385.40 from Cregger Company, Inc. The current units are over 10 years old, with only one functioning.
• Data Center Upgrade: Approved the purchase of 2 nodes and turnkey installation by Dell for $282,128.00.
• School Nutrition Bid Renewals: Approved the renewal of all school nutrition bid proposals for the period from July 1, 2025, through June 30, 2026. The renewals cover milk, single-serve pizza, commodity processing, paper products, fresh produce, and general food items.
• School Safety Radios: Approved the purchase of 200 additional radios for all schools for $153,383.32 from Mobile Communications America, funded by a safety grant. Each school will receive approximately 12 radios.
• Purchase of New Police Vehicles: Approved the purchase of four new Police Interceptor vehicles from Wade Ford at a total cost of $199,655.00.
• Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Coastal Plains High School: Approved the continuation of the MoU between Glynn County Schools and Coastal Plains High School. The agreement outlines educational program terms for at-risk students, including financial arrangements and responsibilities for student services, from July 1, 2025, to June 30, 2026.

Work Session Update

During the May 8 Work Session, the Board received an update on the Cognia Accreditation Engagement Review Report, presented by Accountability and Compliance Director Dr. Shelly Nelson. Glynn County Schools completed the review on March 18, 2025, and was notified of its rating on April 14, with both the overall score and individual feedback provided.

The district earned an Index of Education Quality (IEQ) score of 320, surpassing Cognia's network average of 296. Final approval of accreditation status will be determined by Cognia and the Cognia Global Commission at their June 25, 2025, meeting.

The Board also received an update on the Para to Teacher Program, which began in fall 2022 as a partnership between Glynn County Schools and the College of Coastal Georgia (CCGA). Following extensive discussions and research, the Board approved the MoU, launching the initiative to develop local educators. Human Resources Executive Director Michele Seals shared that May 9, 2025, marked the graduation of the inaugural cohort, who earned a Bachelor of Science in Education with dual majors and certification in both Elementary Education and Special Education (P-5). The graduates include:
