Game Preview
The Red Terrors will try to pick up their second straight win in Region 1-AAAAAA since losing their region opener at home to Bradwell Institute.
Last Friday, the Terrors rolled to a 44-10 victory at Lakeside-Evans.
Glynn hasn’t had much luck against the Rebels lately. Effingham has won the last five meetings between the teams with John Ford as the head coach.
The last two meetings were really close, however. The Rebels edged Glynn 45-42 last season in Brunswick after topping the Terrors the season before by a 45-43 score in Springfield.
Going into the 2021 season, Glynn had won 14 in a row over the Rebels who went through three different head coaches from 2006 to 2020 prior to Ford taking over the program in time for the 2021 season.
Effingham will try to stay perfect in the region with another triumph over the Terrors. The Rebels have played the same two league opponents as Glynn coming into this matchup, having blown out Lakeside-Evans (59-0) and outscoring Bradwell Institute (55-36).
The Rebels pose problems for a Glynn defense which has been vulnerable to big plays. At one point in the loss to Bradwell, the Terrors had given up 199 yards and three scores to the Tigers in five plays.
Effingham’s sophomore quarterback Matthew Dillon has performed admirably, throwing for 780 yards and nine touchdowns in the team’s first five games.
His favorite targets are college prospect Isaiah Brown, a junior receiver, and senior wideout Trayvis Hunter, the brother of former Heisman Trophy winner Travis Hunter who is in his second season with the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Effingham’s top running backs both had 200-plus yards rushing last Friday night against Bradwell. Jmere Doe-davis, a senior, is averaging 133.4 yards a game on the ground for the Rebels.
The team’s offensive front features Jordan Dillon, a 6-foot-4, 305-pounder, who is committed to Georgia Tech.
Glynn’s offense will need to follow a familiar script in this one which involves eating up the clock with lengthy drives and punching the ball into the end zone when the Terrors have opportunities inside the red zone.
Last week, the Terrors got two touchdowns each from running backs Caiden Robinson and Ian Pomiechowski.
Also, Ja’kori Roman rushed for 129 yards and a touchdown on five carries.
