Game Preview
The Pirates will try to make it three wins in a row to start the region schedule as they go on the road Friday to face a dangerous Bradwell Institute team in Hinesville.
This will be Brunswick’s second road game in the region as the Pirates kicked off their league slate two weeks ago at Grovetown.
Last week, the Pirates played at home, knocking off Greenbrier in the annual Homecoming Game.
This game on Friday night at Olvey Field will be a real challenge for the Pirates, especially the defense. The Tigers have big-play ability in their skill positions with fast players who can go the distance at any time.
Their fastest guy is senior wideout Jacobi Pasley, the state champion in the 100-meter dash, 200- and also the 400 this past spring in the Class AAAAA meet in Athens. He is committed to play football at West Virginia, but reports surfaced this summer that Kirby Smart was trying to get the three-star recruit to flip his decision to Georgia. Pasley visited with the Bulldogs this summer, according to published reports.
Pasley averages 21 yards per catch and has caught four touchdown passes.
Other play-makers in the receiver spots for the Tigers are senior Carlito Savea and fellow senior Tyson Spears.
Bradwell’s running back Cameron Keeve also has good top-end speed. He averages 127 yards per game on the ground and has scored nine touchdowns in five games.
Their quarterback, senior Jah’Barri Felix, has a strong throwing arm as well. He has already thrown for 979 yards and 16 touchdowns while having only one pass intercepted thus far.
Of course, the Pirates will counter with their own big-play ability. Senior running backs Nigel Gardner and Josiah Gibbons are one of the state’s best backfield combos.
Last week against Greenbrier, Gibbons carried eight times for 173 yards and four touchdowns while Gardner rushed for 147 yards and two scores on 11 attempts.
Also, Brunswick can hit you with big gains through the air. Senior quarterback Keygan Walker, who is starting for the first time this season, has thrown for 843 yards already this season while completing nearly 60 percent of his passes. He has thrown for 12 touchdowns in Brunswick’s first five games.
Brunswick receivers Waseem Murray and Isreal Henry are both play-makers with the ball in their hands.
Bradwell has struggled to stop any opposing offense since its 56-13 loss at Valdosta in Week 3.
The Tigers defeated Glynn Academy 54-43 in their region opener, surrendering 524 total yards and 484 rushing yards in the win.
Last week in their loss to Effingham, the Tigers allowed the top two running backs for the Rebels to run for more than 200 yards apiece while combining for five touchdowns as well.
Brunswick has won the last five meetings with the Tigers. The Pirates’ last loss in the series was back in 2018 when they fell 41-14 to the Tigers in Hinesville.
This is Bradwell’s first season under head coach John Adams who previously served as an assistant coach at Georgia State University. His last head coaching job was with Cedar Grove which he led to two state championships.
