Last year/All-time: Teams have never played. This is the first-ever meeting between the schools.

 

Game Preview

 

The Pirates are set to return to the field following their first off week of the season last week.

 

Brunswick is 1-1 on the young season, its first

under new head coach Bryon Slack. The Pirates lost their opener 35-21 to Camden County at home before trouncing Groves 63-0 two weeks ago. That game was also at Glynn County Stadium.

 

In that rout of the Rebels, the Pirates led 56-0 at halftime and the second half was played with a running clock. BHS scored on all seven of its first-half possessions and also returned an interception for a touchdown before halftime.

 

Brunswick quarterback Keygan Walker, starting for the first time this season, was a perfect 6-for-6 throwing the ball for 190 yards with five touchdowns.

 

Friday’s game against the Rams will be the final non-region game for the Pirates who will open region play next week with a trip to Augusta to face off with Grovetown.

 

Grayson, which is located in Loganville, is a perennial power from Georgia’s largest classification.

 

The Rams started the season 0-2 with losses to North Gwinnett (37-22) in a Corky Kell Classic game played in Mercedes-Benz in downtown Atlanta and also Sandy Creek (21-13). North Gwinnett is currently ranked third in Class AAAAAAA as the Bulldogs have started out 3-0 while Sandy Creek started the season ranked No. 1 in Class AAAA after winning a state title a year ago. The team is still in that top spot after a 3-0 start to its season as well.

 

Last week, the Rams picked up their first victory of the 2026 campaign when they knocked off Hughes 22-3 in Fairburn. Hughes, now 1-1, dropped to No. 8 in the Class AAAAAA poll with the loss.

 

The Rams held Hughes to 108 total yards.

 

Grayson has won four state championships (2011, 2016, 2020 and 2024). This Rams team includes several players with major college scholarship offers.

 

At the top of that list is senior offensive lineman Jordan Agbanoma who is committed to Nebraska. Also committed to the Cornhuskers is linebacker Eli Harris and tight end Joey Hunter.

 

Players to watch for the Grayson defense include senior lineman Waylon Wooten (Georgia commit), senior defensive back Preston Glasco (UConn commit with recent offers from Georgia and Alabama), senior defensive back London Goggans (Kansas State commit) and senior linebacker/safety Aaron Black who holds 30-plus offers including those from Florida State, Mississippi State and Tennessee.

 

Standouts for the Grayson offense include senior quarterback David “Deuce” Smith who has multiple FBS offers and senior running backs Ashton Turner and Jeremiah Stonewell who also have multiple Division I offers.

 

A top player in the team’s junior class is wide receiver/tight end Elijah Tillman, a 6-foot-8, 240-pounder who is drawing Power-4 attention with his size and frame to go with his athleticism.

 

This is Grayson’s first season under head coach Greg Carswell. He had been the team’s defensive coordinator and was promoted to head coach following the departure of Santavious Bryant who left to become Gainesville’s head coach in January.

 

Grayson will continue a brutal non-region schedule over the next two weeks after facing Brunswick. The Rams will host state heavyweight and defending national champion Buford next Friday for their home opener before also hosting Miami Carol City (Fla.) the following week.

 

Kickoff between the Pirates and Rams is set for 7:30 p.m.
