School Nutrition Spotlight
We honored our School Nutrition Department at the August Board Meeting for their numerous outstanding achievements. Congratulations to all the award winners for representing our county so admirably! A heartfelt thank you to all our School Nutrition Program staff for their hard work every day in serving our children!
Local Food for Schools Grant
The Local Food for Schools grant allowed us to purchase 1 oz packages of Georgia peanuts, which we use in our breakfast protein packs at the high schools. At the Georgia School Nutrition Conference in April, the Georgia Peanut Commission presented Glynn County with a $1,000 check for being the district to use the most Georgia peanuts on their school menus.
Georgia School Nutrition Association 2025 Leadership Academy Graduates:

- Jessica Willis, Goodyear Elementary School Café Manager
- Kristina Monks, Needwood Middle School Café Manager
o Mrs. Monk also served as the Glynn County School Nutrition President, and we received the Gold Scroll of Excellence for 2025.
Nutrition Advisory Council
Mrs. Ae Mills, Café Manager at Risley Middle School, launched a Student Nutrition Advisory Council. At the State Conference in April, Risley Middle won the Nutrition Advisory Council of the Year Award for the State of Georgia.
Georgia Culinary Competition
Jane Macon Middle School won 1st place in the 8th District Culinary Competition and 2nd place in the State Culinary Competition. Deann Davis is the Café Manager at Jane Macon.
Manager of the Year
Doris Cain, Café Manager at Brunswick High School, won Glynn County Manager of the Year, 8th District Manager of the Year, and placed 2nd for Georgia Manager of the Year.
Brunswick High was selected for the Georgia Department of Education Culinary Support Program, and it was a huge success. The program was led by Doris Cain and Chef John Huff from GADOE. They created new sauce options and recipes like Smash Burgers, Shrimp Tacos, Shrimp Asian Salad, and Roasted Vegetables just to name a few.
School Nutrition Program Central Office Employee of the Year
Mrs. Patti LaNeve works at the District Office and serves as our File and Records Clerk and Purchasing Specialist. She won the Naomi Tolbert Central Office Support Award for our district. Then, she advanced to the state level where she was named Georgia’s Naomi Tolbert Central Office Employee of the Year!
School Nutrition Employee of the Year
Mr. Paul O'Brien was named Glynn County School Nutrition Employee of the Year. At the state level, he placed 3rd Runner Up for Georgia School Nutrition Employee of the Year.
