It had been 17 years since Glynn Academy wrestling won a region title.
The Terrors corrected that dry spell Saturday when they captured the traditional Region 1-5A championship at Brunswick Square Garden.
Glynn notched 277.5 total points as a team to finally beat out South Effingham, which placed second with 250.5 points. Host Brunswick High finished third with 209.5 points, Greenbrier was fourth at 159.5, and Effingham County rounded out the top five with 102.5 points.
Eight different Terrors were crowned individual region champions: Marigona Lau (girls; 135), Phil Cuttino (138), Zion Gervais (144), AJ Waters (150), Kainoa Lau (165), Caleb Cross (175), Bennett Sams (190), and Cooper Reiss (215).
Carson Lutz (113) and Harbin Bruce (126) were runners-up in their respective weight classes, while Kyler Kegley (106) and Robert Flores (285) each placed third.
Reigning state champion Clayton Hicks (132) was the lone region title winner for Brunswick. Aric Smith (138) and Crosby Alderman (285) each placed second, and five Pirates — Ryan Sanders (113), Joe Demery (120), Semaj Dobbins (150), Jakobi Allen (165) and Tripp Rowell (215) — finished third.
