........................................................

Family: I grew up in a loving and supportive family with my parents and two sisters and a close extended family. My wonderful husband Greg and I have been married for ten years and we have been blessed with four precious children.

Who is your role model? My role model is my mom. First and foremost, she is a lady of faith and wisdom. She is kind, supportive, and dedicated. She is also an amazing teacher. Since I was a little girl, I have always wanted to be like her.

What book has most influenced you? The Bible has influenced my life the most. The First Days of School: How to be an Effective Teacher by Harry Wong has been influential to my teaching career.

What is your greatest teaching memory? There are too many wonderful teaching memories to pick just one. What I love most is building relationships with and among my students. Seeing my students help, comfort, and celebrate each other is so heartwarming. The stories, hugs, “I love you”, and “I missed you” I get from my kiddos are my greatest moments and memories because it is evidence that they know I care about them.

What is your favorite quote or personal motto? Jeremiah 29:11-13 “’For I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the LORD, ‘plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.’”

What is a fact about you that most people don't know? My mom, Wendy Mitchell, is also Teacher of the Year for FACES this year.

Any hidden talents or hobbies? I love making memories with my family, whether it is something simple like playing at the park, or something extra special like a vacation to Disney World. I also enjoy decorating for and celebrating holidays, baking, and reading.
