Emily Baxter was named Teacher of the Year at St. Simons Elementary School. She has taught first, second, fourth and fifth grades as well as kindergarten EIP. Here are some awesome things you should know.

........................................................

Family: I am married to my husband, Brent, and I have two bonus boys, Walt and Meris, who are 11 and 8.

Who is your role model? My mother is my role model because she is the most selfless and forgiving human I know. She also happens to be a teacher and provided me with a wonderful example of the kind of teacher I wanted to be.

What book has most influenced you? The book that has influenced me the most is The Hundred Dresses by Eleanor Estes. Professionally the story has impacted the way I help my students build relationships with each other as well as the way I relate to each of them. As a teacher, you never know what is going on in someone’s life and the silent feelings students’ bring with them to school everyday.

What is your greatest teaching memory? One of my greatest teaching memories was getting to teach with my mom last year at St. Simons Elementary. She’s retired but works as a tutor and substitute and every once in a while she would come do groups with my students.

What is your favorite quote or personal motto? “You will make all kinds of mistakes; but as long as you are generous and true and also fierce you cannot hurt the world or even seriously distress her. She was meant to be wooed and won by youth.” - Sir Winston Churchill

Any hidden talents or hobbies? My favorite hobby is playing tennis.
