TOTY Spotlight: Octavia Cash

Throughout the month of October and November, we will be introducing you to the 2023-2024 Glynn County Teachers of the Year.

Octavia Cash was named Teacher of the Year at Jane Macon Middle School. She has taught 4th-grade ELA at Golden Isles Elementary, and 6th- and 7th-grade ELA at Jane Macon Middle.

Family: Husband Virgil Cash, and my 3 boys, Franklin (19, sophomore at Georgia Southern University), Bryson (4, pre-K at Sterling Elementary), and Isaiah (1). My parents are Kenneth and Vondella Wesley.

Who is your role model? My father and mother are both my role models. They have shown me what hard work means and most of all the importance of building positive caring relationships, being a giver, and a support system to all.
 
What book has most influenced you? Becoming by Michelle Obama. This book has influenced me to share my voice. It has influenced me to keep going despite what's going on around me and to recognize my purpose and the plan for my life. It has influenced me to consistently walk upright with grace and dignity. It has influenced me to remain focused on my journey through life and embrace all the people and things around me with compassion, care, and respect.

What is your greatest teaching memory? I’ve gained so many memories throughout my years in the classroom, but I would say my greatest teaching memory is when one of my students wrote me a note and the only thing it said was, “Thank you!”

What is a fact about you that most people don't know? I love to sing.
 
Any hidden talents or hobbies? I love to journal and spend time with my family.
