Partnership to Create Paraprofessional-to-Teacher Pipeline

At the June Board meeting, Superintendent Dr. Spence and CCGA President Dr. Johnston signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for the Leveraging Education Attainment through Partnerships (LEAP) program.

It will provide access to the college’s teacher education program to qualified GCSS paraprofessionals, so that they can complete coursework at the College of Coastal Georgia to earn certification and a bachelor of science in education.

As part of the agreement, the college will waive the admissions application and other fees, provide a book scholarship of up to $300 per semester and schedule classes that take into consideration district staff’s work schedule.

GCSS will provide a slate of pre-selected, qualified candidates for the program and will cover the payment of the cost of attendance differential after participants’ financial aid has been applied.
