TOTY Spotlight: Melanie Weese

Throughout the month of November, we will be introducing you to the 2022-2023 Glynn County Teachers of the Year.

Melanie Weese was named Teacher of the Year at Jane Macon Middle School and is one of five finalists in the running for the Glynn County Teacher of the Year. She has taught sixth-grade Science and sixth- and seventh-grade Math for the past 8 years of her 16-year career in education. Here are some awesome things you should know.

........................................................

Family: I am married to my high school sweetheart, Brian and we have two beautiful girls, Sarah and Anna.  Sarah is a junior at the University of Georgia, and Anna is in 8th grade at Jane Macon Middle School.

Who is your role model? Mrs. Hill, (7th grade Science), and Mrs. McQuaig, (8th grade Math), were teachers who had the greatest impact on my learning career.  They taught me a love for their subjects.  My biggest role models would be my parents, who taught me to care about others and to work hard for what you want.

What book has most influenced you? "The Color Purple" by Alice Walker

What is your greatest teaching memory? The moments in which I have seen students loving each other well. I don’t think anything tops that for me.

What is your favorite quote or personal motto? “When you can’t find the sunshine, be the sunshine.”

What is a fact about you that most people don't know? I was a Ballet Pedagogy Major for a while in college and in a Classical Ballet Company.
