COVID-19/Coronavirus Information

As you know, all of our community agencies are closely monitoring the situation involving the coronavirus (COVID-19).  Our school district continues to work with the Glynn County Health Department, Georgia Department of Public Health, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and other federal and state emergency authorities to monitor the situation and update our preparedness plan to support our students and our families in the event that a local case is detected.

 

In an effort to be transparent, this page has been established to provide up-to-date information, resources and communications from the district to our community members.

After posting the 1/25/2020 update, two schools were notified of positive students with the number of contacts for direct exposures at school and extracurricular activities provided: one from Jane Macon (30) and one from Oglethorpe Point (6). Today, the following schools received information about staff members who tested positive, and the number of students quarantined due to direct exposure at school is shown in the parentheses: two from Burroughs Molette (10); one from Glynn Middle (0); one from Glynn Academy (0); and one from Altama (in progress). Student cases reported today include the following sites with the number of students quarantined due to direct exposure at school indicated in the parentheses: one from Jane Macon (0); one from Glynn Academy (0); and one from Golden Isles (0).

Each of the following schools received news of students who tested positive with the number of students who are quarantined due to direct exposure at school shown in parentheses: 1 from Jane Macon (9), 1 from Sterling Elementary (0), 2 from Brunswick High (13), and 2 from Glynn Academy (11). Golden Isles Elementary has a staff member who tested positive without the need to contact families for quarantine due to direct exposure at school.

Jane Macon Middle received notice of 1 student who tested positive who was not in direct contact with other students at school. Satilla Marsh learned of 1 student who tested positive, and families for 3 students were notified about the quarantine requirements for their children due to direct exposure at school. The following schools learned of 2 students each who tested positive for COVID-19 and the number of students quarantined due to direct exposure in class and extracurricular activities is provided in the parentheses following the school name: Brunswick High (9) and Glynn Academy (26).

The following schools learned of 1 student at each site who has tested positive and the number of students on quarantine due to direct exposure at school is provided in the parenthesis after the school name: Jane Macon (9), Brunswick High (6), Risley Middle (10). Glynn Academy learned of 2 student cases that did not require notifications for quarantine. Glynn Middle School had a report from the weekend for 1 student that required contact tracing and there were 37 students identified for quarantine due to direct exposure in classes and extracurricular activities at school. Glynn Academy has a staff member that tested positive and 23 students are quarantined as direct exposures in this case. After additional review of contacts for a case reported on 1/19/2021, Glynn Academy added 6 students to quarantine due to direct exposure at school.

Goodyear Elementary received confirmed results for a staff member that tested positive for COVID-19 and families for 2 students have been contacted for them to complete quarantine due to direct exposure at school.

After posting on 1/13/2021, Glynn Academy learned of 1 student who tested positive and 5 students were notified about the need to complete quarantine requirements due to direct exposure at school. Brunswick High received reports for 2 students who tested positive and 16 students have been notified to quarantine due to direct exposure at school. 
 
1/13/2021
Brunswick High received results for 1 student who tested positive for COVID19 and 15 students were notified for quarantine due to direct exposure at school. Glynn Academy learned of 2 students with positive results and 4 students were notified about direct exposure at school and given return to school quarantine requirements. A report was received for a non-school assigned staff member that did not require notifications for direct exposure at school.  After a review of contact tracing from the student case at Glynn Academy reported yesterday, 5 additional students were identified for quarantine.

The following schools have received positive test results for 1 staff member each, and the number of students that will be quarantined due to direct exposure at school are noted in the parentheses following the school name: Goodyear (6), Morningstar Academy (9), Greer (13), Jane Macon (1).  The district was notified about 3 non-school assigned staff members who tested positive that did not require notification to families for quarantine. The following schools learned of 1 student each who has tested positive and the number of students on quarantine due to direct exposure at school is provided in the parenthesis after the school name: Jane Macon (8), Brunswick High (12), and Glynn Academy (4). 
 
1/11/2021
The following schools have learned of confirmed results for students who have not returned since the holiday break: Glyndale (1), Greer (1), and Glynn Academy (2). Notifications were not needed for these cases. A report for 1 student who has returned was provided to Glynn Academy today, and this case did not require notifications to quarantine due to direct exposure at school. Golden Isles Elementary, Greer Elementary, Brunswick High, and Risley Middle School have 1 staff member each who tested positive without the need to contact families for direct exposures at school. The district also received a report from a non-school assigned staff member who tested positive and did not require notifications for direct exposures at school. Sterling Elementary has 2 staff members that have tested positive, and parents for 9 students were notified about quarantine requirements due to direct exposure at school.

Jane Macon Middle learned of a student that has tested positive for COVID-19 and families for 10 students were notified to quarantine due to direct exposure at school. Glynn Academy was notified of 2 students that tested positive and 11 students were identified through contact tracing to quarantine due to direct exposure at school. Additionally, a Coastal Academy staff member tested positive, with families for 6 students being notified to quarantine due to direct exposure at school.
 
1/7/2021
Needwood Middle School received notice of 1 student that tested positive after attending school yesterday and families for 4 students were notified to quarantine. Altama has contacted families for 2 students to quarantine after direct exposure to 1 student who tested positive after attending school yesterday. The district learned that 1 non-teaching staff member has tested positive who did not have contact with students. The following schools have learned of additional students that did not return from the holiday due to confirmed COVID-19 test results and the need to complete their isolation: Glyndale (2) and Glynn Academy (5).

The following schools have students that reported testing positive for COVID-19 over the holidays and did not report to school today to complete their isolation: Golden Isles (2), Greer (3), St Simons Elementary (2), Sterling (1), Glynn Middle (2), Jane Macon (1), Risley Middle (5), and Brunswick High (3). Oglethorpe Point had a student test positive and families for 5 students were notified to quarantine due to direct exposure at school today. Two non-school assigned staff members have reported confirmed results without the need to contact families for direct exposure at school.

The following schools have staff members that reported testing positive for COVID19 over the holidays and did not report to work today to complete their isolation: Burroughs Molette (1), FACES (2), Goodyear (1), Satilla Marsh (1), St. Simons (2), Jane Macon (1), Needwood (2), Risley Middle (4), Brunswick High (1), Glynn Academy (1), and Coastal Academy (2). After posting yesterday, Brunswick High school learned of a staff member who tested positive that did not require any students to quarantine due to direct exposure at school. Today, FACES Pre-K was notified of a staff member who tested positive. Families for 4 students were contacted to quarantine due to direct exposure at school. Brunswick High has a student who tested positive and families for 23 students were given information about quarantine. Oglethorpe Point had a staff member report positive results and no contacts were needed for quarantine.

C. B. Greer received results for 2 students, one of whom is a virtual student. Families for 7 students were notified to quarantine due to direct exposure at school. Glynn Academy has a student that tested positive and 11 students are to quarantine due to direct exposure at school. Risley Middle School was notified of a student that tested positive and families for 20 students were contacted for quarantine due to direct exposure at school. Goodyear Elementary has 1 staff member who tested positive without the need to contact families for quarantine. Altama Elementary learned of 1 staff member this afternoon that has tested positive and contact tracing is in progress.
 
12/16/2020
Brunswick High received positive results for 1student. Families for 23 students were notified for quarantine due to direct exposure at school. Needwood Middle School learned of 1 student who tested positive and families for 8 students were contacted about quarantine. Virtual students from BHS (1) and Needwood Middle (2) reported positive results today without the need to identify contacts from school.
 
12/15/2020
Brunswick High and Risley Middle learned of 1 student each today that has tested positive for COVID19. Brunswick High notified families for 6 students and Risley contacted families for 12 students about quarantine requirements due to direct exposure at school. Satilla Marsh received results for 1 staff member and 5 families were notified about quarantine. FACES had a staff member test positive and families for 8 students were informed about quarantine due to direct exposure at school. Needwood Middle School had 2 positive cases for staff members that did not involve direct exposures at school.

Glynn Academy received results for 1 student which required the school to notify 1 student to meet quarantine requirements due to direct exposure at school. A non-school assigned staff member tested positive and contact tracing is in progress. After additional review of contacts for a case reported 12/10/2020, Brunswick High contacted 6 more families about quarantine.

Brunswick High received results for 2 students that have tested positive. Due to direct exposure, 16 families have been notified at this time for their students to quarantine. Jane Macon has a student that tested positive and 11 families were contacted about quarantine requirements due to direct exposure at school. Glynn Academy learned of 3 students who tested positive. Further review of contacts for a case at Glynn Academy indicated an additional notification for 1 student to meet quarantine requirements due to direct exposure at school.

FACES learned of a staff member who tested positive and notified families of 2 students to quarantine due to direct exposure at school. After contract tracing was completed for the Brunswick High case from 10/4/2020, families of 10 students were notified for quarantine. Brunswick High learned of 4 student cases today and the total number of students quarantined from these cases is 15 due to direct exposure at school. Glynn Academy had 2 cases reported for students. Families for 12 students were notified for quarantine due to direct exposure at school.

Burroughs-Molette Elementary received a report for a staff member who tested positive, and Glyndale Elementary learned of a student who tested positive. No students were identified for either of these cases for quarantine due to direct exposure at school. Through continued review of contact tracing for cases reported to Brunswick High on 11/17/2020, 2 additional students were identified for quarantine due to direct exposure at school.

There are 31 students that have been identified from these three cases to quarantine due to direct exposure at school. Jane Macon Middle received results for a student that tested positive and 24 students were identified to quarantine due to direct exposure at school.

After posting on 11/13/2020, Sterling Elementary was notified of a staff member who tested positive. Families for 19 students were notified to quarantine due to direct exposure at school. On Sunday, Glyndale Elementary received notice of a staff member who tested positive and families for 17 students were contacted for quarantine due to direct exposure at school. A non-school assigned staff member tested positive without the need to notify families to quarantine.

A report for one Sterling Elementary student who tested positive resulted in 4 students who are in quarantine due to direct exposure at school. Altama Elementary has two confirmed cases for students that do not require additional parent contacts for quarantine due to direct exposure at school. Glynn Academy and Glynn Middle each had one confirmed student case of COVID-19 reported with no quarantines related to direct exposure at school.

Brunswick High received confirmed results for a staff member that did not require notification for parents to quarantine students due to direct exposure at school.

 

10/27/2020

There were no reported cases of COVID-19 received by schools today. After a further review of contact tracing, one additional student was added to the quarantine list for St. Simons Elementary from their student case reported on 10/26/2020.

After posting the 10/13/2020 update on the dashboard, Greer received results for a staff member who tested positive for COVID-19. The parent of one student was notified of the need to quarantine due to direct exposure at school. Today, Glynn Academy was notified of positive results for a student that did not require contact tracing for direct exposure at school.

After posting the 9/11/2020 update on the dashboard, Burroughs-Molette Elementary learned of a staff member who received positive test results. No quarantine was needed. On Sunday, Sterling Elementary received notice of a student who tested positive. Guardians for 7 students were notified on Sunday about the need to quarantine due to direct exposure at school. Brunswick High School received confirmed positive results for a student without the need to notify any direct exposures at school.

Needwood Middle School received notice late yesterday of two students who tested positive. The guardians for 14 students were notified and those students are in quarantine due to direct exposure at school. Today, Brunswick High School learned of a positive case for a student, and the families of 14 students were notified to quarantine due to direct exposure at school. Oglethorpe Point Elementary has a staff member who reported positive test results. No student quarantine is necessary from this case.

Schools that learned of positive student cases since Friday (9/4/2020) include the following sites with the number of students in quarantine in the parentheses following the school name: one confirmed from Golden Isles Elementary (2), three confirmed from Oglethorpe Point Elementary (13), one confirmed from Glynn Middle (12), one confirmed from Needwood Middle (10), two confirmed from Risley Middle (21), and one confirmed from Brunswick High (0). Brunswick High and Satilla Marsh each received reports from one staff member each without any student contacts for quarantine. Oglethorpe Point had one staff member with positive results with two students in quarantine.

Brunswick High School has a student who reported positive results. Contact tracing at the school identified 12 students that are required to quarantine due to direct exposure at school. Oglethorpe Elementary added a confirmed student case today with no additional students on quarantine.

 

9/3/2020
Late Wednesday afternoon, Satilla Marsh Elementary was informed of a staff member who received positive test results. Parents were contacted afterwards about direct exposures to this case and the OneCall on Wednesday was inclusive of this report. Direct exposures resulted in five students at home for quarantine. Today, Needwood Middle School learned of a staff member who has tested positive that does not require students to quarantine. Glynn Academy reported a confirmed case for a student that has 28 students identified for quarantine based on direct exposure during the school day.

 

9/2/2020
Altama Elementary School had a report yesterday evening for a staff member who has tested positive for COVID-19. No students have had to quarantine for this case. Today, Brunswick High was notified of three students who tested positive, resulting in 11 students out for quarantine due to direct exposure at school. Goodyear Elementary (11) and Sterling Elementary (10) each had one student with confirmed results and the number of guardians notified for quarantine are provided in the parentheses following the school name. Satilla Marsh has three staff members who have provided confirmed results to the school and guardians are aware of the need to quarantine the 6 students who were identified in contact tracing at school. Glynn Academy and Needwood Middle each have one staff member who received positive results without the need to quarantine students.

 

9/1/2020
Satilla Marsh received a report today for a student with positive test results. Guardians for seven students were advised of the required quarantine because of direct exposure. After ongoing review of Monday’s reports, guardians of two additional students from Burroughs-Molette Elementary and four additional students from Glynn Academy were notified to quarantine.

 

8/31/2020

Glynn Academy learned Friday afternoon of a confirmed case for a student that has not been in school, so no direct exposures at school have been noted for this case. Over the weekend, results returned for one positive staff case each for Needwood Middle School (0), Satilla Marsh Elementary (5), and Goodyear Elementary (14). The number of students at each school who are in quarantine because of direct exposure to these staff members at school is provided in the parentheses after each school. Since Friday, one additional student case has been confirmed for each of the following schools: Coastal Academy (4) and Burroughs Molette (4). Again, the number of students in quarantine because of direct exposure at school is provided in the parentheses following each school name. Brunswick High School added two additional cases for students with 13 students in quarantine from direct exposure at school. Glynn Academy received news of five additional cases for students. As a result, the guardians of 10 students were notified and instructed to quarantine due to their direct exposure at school.

An additional Thursday report was made for a staff member at C.B. Greer. No direct exposures were noted for that case. St. Simons Elementary was informed of a positive result for a staff member. Notifications have been made for 23 students about their quarantine period. A student at Oglethorpe Point Elementary tested positive and the guardians of 12 students with direct exposure have been contacted about quarantine. One staff member from Brunswick High School was confirmed positive and one student has been identified for quarantine for this case.

 

8/27/2020
One student contact from Leaps and Bounds was identified for the non-school assigned staff member that reported the results on 8/26/2020 and that child is now in quarantine. After the Wednesday update posting, a confirmed case was reported for a student at Glynn Academy. Three students are now in quarantine as a result of contact with this individual. Glynn Academy also received three positive test results for students today, and parents for 21 students were contacted for their required quarantine. One Glynn Academy staff member confirmed positive results without any direct exposures to students at school. Glyndale Elementary reported two confirmed cases for students and 25 students are now in quarantine after parents were notified of their exposure. Golden Isles and Goodyear Elementary schools received confirmed results for one student at each of the schools. Direct exposures for these students have been notified and three are home in quarantine.

 

8/26/2020
Late Tuesday evening, Glynn Academy was informed that a staff member received positive test results. No direct contacts with staff or students were identified for this case. During the evening, confirmed positive results were shared for four students at Glynn Academy who tested on Monday. An additional student case was confirmed today from testing completed yesterday. Direct exposures to these students at school were identified and included 56 students who are in quarantine after contacting their guardians. C.B. Greer has a reported case for a staff member who has tested positive and is not connected to direct exposures to students. Glynn Middle School received notice of a confirmed case for a student. Guardians were contacted for seven students that are now quarantined. St. Simons Elementary School had a parent report positive test results for a child who was not present at school. A non-school assigned staff member provided positive results this afternoon, and we are working to identify any direct exposures.

 

8/25/2020
Late Monday afternoon, Glynn Academy was notified of a positive test result for a student. Guardians for all direct contacts were notified by the school. As a result, 14 students have been quarantined. Monday evening, Brunswick High School was notified of a positive test result for a student. Seventeen (17) students have been quarantined due to direct exposure. All families have been notified. Through ongoing review of cases, 1 student contact has been identified for the non-school staff member who reported positive results over the weekend and that student is at home in quarantine.

 

8/24/2020

A Glynn Academy staff member that tested on 8/22/2020 received positive results today.  No direct exposures occurred at school.

 

8/23/2020

Satilla Marsh was notified of a positive case for a student that tested on 8/20/2020.  Sunday afternoon, all parents of close contacts were notified individually by the principal.  As a result, 2 students have been quarantined at home due to this exposure.  Glynn Academy was notified of a positive case for a staff member that tested on 8/20/2020.  There were no direct exposures at school from this case.  A non-school assigned staff member notified the district office of a positive test result received on Saturday.  No direct exposure with students.  Other staff that were directly exposed have been notified.

There was one reported positive case of COVID-19 at Glynn Academy.  We immediately identified close contacts and notified their parents individually. As a result, 37 students have been quarantined at home due to this exposure. (Updated 8/24/2020 -- Duplicates were found in the original record.)

 

8/20/2020

There were no reported cases of COVID-19.  There were no students or staff members quarantined at home as a result of a positive test or direct exposure at school.

 

 

Effective 08/12/2020, adults and students are required to wear face masks while inside a Glynn County school/facility or while riding in a Glynn County Schools’ vehicle.
 
Masks should be worn properly on the face and must cover the nose and the mouth. Masks should meet the requirements of the Glynn County Schools Dress Code.
 
Students who come to school or class without a mask will be provided a mask.
 
Repeated refusal to wear a mask will result in a conference with the parent/guardian to discuss virtual and distance learning options.
Exceptions based on medical needs for students and staff must be documented by a physician and that documentation will be treated as confidential and retained in the office of the principal. Some students with disabilities may be exempt based on individual needs as determined by the Director of Special Education.
Staff members may remove their masks when students are not present and social distancing from other adults is possible.
 
Students and adults may remove their mask when:
 
  • They are eating or drinking
  • Instructional needs and other activities are approved by the principal

Should a student or staff member have concerns about another person not having a mask/face covering, those issues should be addressed with the principal in a confidential manner to respect all people involved.
