About Dr. Spence
Dr. Scott Spence joined the Glynn County School System as the superintendent in July 2020. Prior to this appointment, he served as the 49% district mathematics coordinator (6-12) for the Glynn County School System.
Dr. Spence has 30 years of experience in education, and has also served as an athletics director, middle and high school principal, middle school assistant principal, and high school coach and mathematics teacher.
Dr. Spence is involved throughout the Glynn County community, volunteering time to and providing opportunities for all children. He is a member of the Brunswick First United Methodist Church, where he served on the Pastor Parish Relations Committee and as a high school and adult Sunday school teacher. He is also a past member of the Exchange Club of Brunswick, the Golden Isles Bowl Board and the Gathering Place Board of Directors.
Additionally, Dr. Spence has served as a volunteer youth coach for the Glynn County Recreation Department and the Golden Isles Soccer Association.
Before beginning his 30-plus year career in education, Dr. Spence earned a meritorious promotion and was named the Honor Graduate from the United States Marine Corps Administrative Clerk School in Camp Pendleton, Ca.
Shortly thereafter, Dr. Spence decided to change his career path and pursue a bachelor’s degree in secondary education with a concentration in mathematics from Valdosta State University. He later earned master’s, specialist and doctorate degrees in educational leadership and administration from Georgia Southern University.
When not at work, Dr. Spence enjoys playing golf, fishing, boating, attending high school athletic events and spending time with his family.
