BHS has
the first student operated FM Radio Station in Georgia.
WBHS
began broadcasting at 12:00 noon on February 2, 2006. The non-commercial
low-power station, will broadcast mostly music and will feature
student "on-air" disc jockey talent. WBHS is licensed
and regulated by the Federal Communications Commission and will
initially broadcast weekdays from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Eventually
it will offer 24 hour programming with music, information, as
well as world, U.S. and local news, sports and weather.
The station
will also work in cooperation with the local emergency management
agency to broadcast public safety and emergency information when
necessary. Currently 16 students make up the staff and the programming
is prerecorded.
Stu Graham
of the BHS Pirate Booster Club spearheaded the project, which
began six years ago.
With
the support of GA Power Company, all of our local radio stations,
the members of our booster club, and the staff at BHS, we are
proud that Pirate Radio is finally a reality, " Graham said.
